We find ourselves back to Friday and exploring poetry form together. I hope you dip in and play along.
What inspires us to write can be invisible to others, either because they do not see or they do not see it. As writers, we can look at a leaf and travel on a journey through time or look at a piece of art and become its other half with a narrative that possibly not even the artist had perceived.
Ekphrastic is a beautiful way to partner with an artist who inspires you. It is a way to speak to the artist vividly even though they are not there. It is not paying homage like with ‘The Golden Shovel’ we explored last week.
It is a stretch of truths of the piece you see before you. Navigate your senses over every millimetre of the strokes, colours and images. Then step into the painting. Become an object within the piece and share its voice. Decipher the story told or the intentions of the artist.
The dictionary describes it as “a literary description of or commentary on a visual work of art.”

If you wish to review an example of an Ekphrastic Poem, read the Iliad by Homer or visit Instagram where I will be sharing my favourite poets in my stories [at]samosbiston.
As it is Friday, I’ll share my poem below and invite you to ask any questions in the comments around the prompt form. If you want to play, please share your poems in the comments. I would love everyone to read each other’s poems and if you feel called to share any positive thoughts with those who have made you smile or given you goosebumps. If you share on Instagram, please tag me @samosbiston so I can cheer you on and use the #NovPAD to acknowledge the challenge.
Here is my poem for today:
Enjoy your journey amongst the paint strokes,
